Admiral's Cove: Located in a cove in the Cape Broyle Harbour on the Southern Shore, on the Avalon Peninsula, Admirals Cove was named after a system of "government" that was in "force" before there were actual "Governors" known as the "Admirals Fishing" system. In this system, which will be described in more detail later on in Chapters 3 and 4, the master of the first boat that arrives from England to fish the waters of Newfoundland each fishing season became the "Admiral" in charge and required to oversee the "law and order" of the land; for this he was rewarded with the first choice of where to land his boat and process the fish (i.e., choice of "fishing rooms"; second one in had second choice and became the "Vice Admiral"; and the third one had third choice and held the position of "Rear Admiral".
